SHOULD I DO VORT OR CBT&A? It’s a personal choice based on your own experience and skill set. The VORT can be more efficient (time and money wise) suitable for learners who have completed 60+ hours, as well as international license transfers with recent driving experience.
The CBT&A is structured and thorough. This will give the learner a well rounded driving experience and is suited for newer learners or those wanting deeper knowledge & experience. It is designed to be done gradually over the course of the learners permit while practicing the skills in-between lessons. However, I do offer a 5-day intensive program for confident learners with more than 6- hours recent experience. CBT&A is the gold standard. To gain competency you will need to have good car control skills, consistent demonstration of tasks and high attention to detail.
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CBT&A AND VORT?
**CBT&A is an ongoing assessment done with the same examiner/instructor throughout the process. There are 30 tasks, all of which have to be signed off before the Final drive is booked. It takes approx 15-20 hours to complete. The Final drive is a 25min primary assessment on traffic management (general driving). Re-assessments are permitted in the same session.
**The VORT (Vehicle on Road Test) is a one-off assessment. The drive is approx 45-60mins. It assesses traffic management and 5 manouveres. You will have a different examiner to your usual instructor. You may sit the VORT without any formal training, however this is not recommended. A breach in Road Law will result in immediate fail. There are no re-assessments in the same session. Learners can re-sit 14 days later, Temporary permit holders can re-book 3 days later.
DO I HAVE TO DO LESSONS BEFORE I TO DO THE VORT?
No, but if you want to pass, yes. I wont book someone’s VORT without a demonstration that they can pass first. Its a waste of time and money if you don’t prepare properly.
CAN I BOOK THE VORT MYSELF?
Yes, direct through a VORT examiner. Check PDTA website for a list. A lot of examiners ask that you have at least 1 lesson before the VORT, but ultimately it’s your choice.
I’ll organise the VORT for you with one of the few VORT examiners I work with. You can’t book the VORT online through my website.
SHOULD I EXPECT TO FAIL THE VORT THE FIRST TIME? Not if you’re prepared. Most of my students pass the VORT the first time. The fail rate is higher for the VORT vs CBT&A, but keep in mind you need double to tripple the lessons to complete the CBT&A.
DO YOU TEACH MANUAL?
No.
CAN YOU PICK ME UP FROM HOME/SCHOOL ECT? No, I have small windows between lessons. If the start point is arranged different to Sturt St, it will cut into your lesson time.
CAN I PAY CASH? Yes, please check the availability online and send a text to save your spot then bring cash on the day.
CAN YOU RECCOMEND AN INSTRUCTOR?
Its best you find you own, however here are some tips:
- Book in advance. You have 12 months on your Ls, 3-6month on temporary permit, leaving it to the last minute will make it difficult. Most people are heavily booked
- Call and speak to them. You can tell alot from a conversation. It can be hard to get an instructor on the phone as we are always driving, but try.
- Only pay for 1 lesson at first, avoid packages and being locked in. If you are comfortable with them you can book more. If you’re not happy with them, do not re-book.
- Go by personal reviews over online reviews. Ask friends, community members facebooks etc. Most people have been through this process.
- The average rate is $100-$120 per hour.
- There are alot of great instructors, it can just take a little bit of work to find them.
